Professor: Dr Daniel Gallagher
Class day and time: Shorter Format: Fridays, 8-9 AM EDT
Languages of instruction: English and Latin
Course description: This course aims to impart and perfect the skills of reading and discussing the work of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Latin. The more proficiently we can discuss Aquinas’s arguments in Latin, the more fluently we can read his works in Latin. Each class will consist of reading, summarizing, and discussing select passages from Book I, as well as exercising grammar through oral drills.
Language prerequisites: Though no prior experience in spoken Latin is necessary, participants should have a solid grounding in grammar, comfort in reading Aquinas, and a willingness to practice Latin through speaking. Most of the course will be conduced in Latin with segments in English as necessary.
